Marble
is a recrystallised (metamorphosed) limestone.
In commercial terms, marble is any crystalline
rock composed predominantly of calcite,
dolomite or serpentine, having 3-4 hardness,
Marble that contains less than five percent
magnesium carbonate may be termed calcite
marble; from 5 to 40 percent magnesium
carbonate, magnesium or dolomite marble;
and more than 40 percent dolomite marble.
Which can be excavated as blocks and can
be sawn into marble slabs and marble tiles.
